Barr's Card Contest
Welcome to the Space Coast Post Card Club's website.
We meet the first Sunday of every month at 2:00 p.m. Our new meeting place is in the Central Brevard Public Library 308 Forrest Ave. Cocoa, FL 32922. You are welcome to join us!
Members have decided to submit entries to the Barr's Post Card News annual post card contest. We have a few entries we are considering and in order to make it easier for the Club members to see those entries, we have put them on our website. If you have opinions on them you may contact us via our Contact Club Officers page. Please remember all images and poetry are copyrighted by their creators/photographers and cannot be copied without the express written permission of the photographer/author.
We are a diverse group. Our membership is male and female, aged twenties to octogenarian; all with a love of at least one certain type or kind of post card. If we don't collect all kinds (and there are several members who collect just about anything), then we specialize in a particular kind. So we all love postcards of one sort or another.
We also hold the Annual Space Coast Post Card Show every year on the second Saturday of November. We have dealers come and sell as many kinds of post cards as you would want to see and many you didn't know existed! (Did you know there are post cards about out houses?) If you love a particular item, animal, state, city, town, famous person, there's probably a post card available for you. If you love history, there are post cards to learn from, surprise you and document your passion for the past. Just about anything you love will be available in postcards. If you know someone who has a passion for anything, you can find a postcard to give them as a gift for that passion. If someone collects Howard Johnson Hotel signs, I've seen a whole photo album full of those because someone thought they'd collect that. Koala bears to hot air balloons, caverns to cars, there's a postcard for you or someone you know.
Why collect post cards? Because they are educational, fun, easy to store (well, depending on how big your collection gets; but they are still easier to store than shoes!), collectible and a great way to pass the time, make a connection with new friends and to spend time with your grandchildren. If you want to start a collection, get information on your own collection , or meet others who enjoy collecting post cards as much as you do, please consider yourself invited to attend one of our meetings. You can check our meeting dates here.
For those of you who have inherited Grandma's post card collection, or found Uncle Phil's shoebox full, remember most post cards are worth between 25¢ and $5.00 each, depending on what they are, their condition, and if there is anything important on the back, or a famous signature on them. There are some post cards that are more valuable than the run of the mill post cards. Original, genuine Mucha's can be worth thousands if they are in excellent condition and can be proven real; the rarest and best of other cards can be worth almost as much. Reproductions of the most valuable and most famous post cards are now available, so you must be careful in your purchases of certain cards. But if you find an original Alphonse Mucha in excellent condition in Uncle Phil's box, congratulations! You've just found a treasure!
Thank you for visiting our website and we hope to see you at the Club!
